What the Nart Sagas Still Teach

The oldest stories in the language are not children's tales, and were never meant to be comforting.

Sosruquo is born from stone and dies betrayed. Setenaya outlives every hero she advises. The sagas are short, hard, and unsentimental, and they were the way a people transmitted judgment before anyone wrote it down.

Our reading group works through one cycle a month, in Adyghe where a text survives in Adyghe.
